‘What is it that
blinds you to the peace of God “in this your day”? Do you have a strange
god-not a disgusting monster but perhaps an unholy nature that controls your
life? More than once God has brought me face to face with a strange god in my
life, and I knew that I should have given it up, but I didn’t do it. I got
through the crisis “by the skin of my teeth,” only to find myself still under
the control of that strange god. I am blind to the very things that make for my
own peace. It is a shocking thing that we can be in the exact place where the
Spirit of God should be having His completely unhindered way with us, and yet
we only make matters worse, increasing our blame in God’s eyes.’ CHAMBERS
Do you find it curious
that much of the Bible has to do with the failings of man toward God? Wouldn’t it be great if you were born again
and then you never had to deal with failing .. sinning … your old nature
again? Since God does not make mistakes
.. there must be some purpose in His leaving us exposed to sin .. vulnerable to
it. Do you sometimes find that you are
serving a “strange god”, all the while thinking or pretending that you walking
in the light as He is in the light? Do
you know people who praise Jesus with their words, but their hearts are far
from God? People who call on God when
they are in trouble and give Him lip service the rest of the time?
The Bible is
Truth. Truth does not change with
time. Truth does not change with
geography or culture. (Isaiah 40:8) “The grass withers, the
flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” It doesn’t matter what people do with Truth,
it’s nature cannot be changed. Ignoring
Truth will not make it go away. That is
the ostrich approach to life … stick you head in the sand and pretend that the
problem is not there. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that purposes of scripture
are “teaching, for reproof, for
correction, and for training in righteousness, [so] that the man of God may be
complete, equipped for every good work.” God wants to be glorified through the
Christian’s life … but that won’t happen if we are not living for Him, but for ourselves. Yielding to our old nature. Forgetting God. The Bible is filled with examples of people
who did that. God must think it is
important for us to know about to devote so much of His revelation to it. My encouragement today .. Walk in the Truth. Draw near to God and
He will draw near to you and encourage others to do the same.
