‘The idea all through the apostle Paul's writings
is that after the moral decision to be identified with Jesus in His death has
been made, the resurrection life of Jesus invades every bit of my human nature.
It takes omnipotence [the Holy Spirit] to live the life of the Son of God in mortal flesh. The
Holy Spirit cannot be located as a Guest in a house, He invades everything.
When once I decide that my "old man" (i.e., the heredity of sin)
should be identified with the death of Jesus, then the Holy Spirit invades me.
He takes charge of everything, my part is to walk in the light and to obey all
that He reveals. When I have made the moral decision about sin, it is easy to
reckon actually that I am dead unto sin, because I find the life of Jesus there
all the time. Just as there is only one stamp of humanity, so there is only one
stamp of holiness, the holiness of Jesus, and it is His holiness that is gifted
to me. God puts the holiness of His Son into me, and I belong to a new order
spiritually.’ CHAMBERS
When we put our faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit
takes up residence in us. The Spirit is absolutely
essential to our living the new life we have been given. In the same way that we could not live in
obedience to the Word of God before our salvation .. we cannot live in
obedience to the Word of God apart from the power of the Holy Spirit in us. But we do have to allow the Spirit it work in
us. Do you remember the day that you
said “yes” to Jesus? There are
undeniable changes that take place in a person’s life when they are born
again. New devotions and desires. But, the reality of our old nature wanting to
rise up is ever present. There is a
struggle … the question is, who will you submit to? Your old nature or the Spirit within you? There is an old saying “You are what you eat”. What are you allowing into your life .. into
your thoughts … if you are continuing a daily diet of the world and what it has
to offer into your mind, then don’t be surprised when you find that you have drifted
away from God and faith. Do you condemn
fornication when you read about it in the Bible or hear about it from the
pulpit and then watch examples of it on TV and in movies and consider it
entertainment? Even enjoyment? Do you consider watching people being shot
and blown up on television and in the movies entertainment and then wonder why people
have become numb towards the violence that dominates our culture in the United States?
Something my Dad (Don Pierson) would say is “Let’s see what the Word has to say
about it?
Philippians
4:8-9 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true,
whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such
things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put
it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
