Yet we will never receive if we ask with a certain result in mind, because we are asking out of our lust, not out of our poverty.’ CHAMBERS

The medical missions teams that come here and the Haitian staff in our clinic see people every day that do not know they are sick.  They come in for one thing and learn that they have some other malady .. maybe worse than the reason they asked for help.  But the words of the caregiver made them aware and they knew something must be done.  One of those maladies is worms.  We see children that have them, but don’t know they have them .. they experience the symptoms but since that is their only reality, they don’t know they are sick.

That is what Chambers is talking about when he says you ‘come in contact with your spiritual reality’.   You are living your life … pretty much satisfied with things and then you hear the words of a caregiver … maybe someone like me … and you are suddenly aware that you are lacking in spiritual health.  Those children are not accused of having worms .. they are told they have them and then they are told what they need to do to get rid of them. Now they have a choice … they could deny that they have them and then live with the consequences.  Of course the best course of action is to acknowledge the existence of the problem and then treat the illness.

So when you realize that you are lacking, spiritually.  Understand that you are not being accused, but diagnosed.  When you have a consultation with Doctor Jesus … He has just the right medicine to fix you up … but, you have to make certain you take it just like He prescribes or you won’t get better!

1 Peter 2:24-25  [Jesus] who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.  (25)  For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
