When Jesus Calls

"And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him." - Matthew 4:18-22

Have you given much thought to what these men did? They left the familiar - the family business, if you will.  The work that their fathers had taught them to do and followed Jesus, immediately. Ok - so you know that we are teaching Experiencing God. About hearing God's voice. That hearing bringing you to a crisis of belief. That crisis being to obey what God has said requires faith and action. Just agreeing that you should do what God, said and doing it, will always require faith and then action (another name for obedience). Just like Peter, Andrew, James and John.  Jesus said that His sheep know his voice.

"But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." - John 10:26-27

Dr. Henry Blackaby said that Christians know God's voice when they hear it. The question is, will they obey it.  After the crisis of belief comes the adjustments in your life. Don't you think that those fishermen had to make some adjustments? They were trying to catch fish in their nets, but Jesus was call them to catch people.  They had to make some adjustments in what they did. I would expect that their families might not have been convinced. Perhaps they might have been rejected.

What is God saying to you? Perhaps not to change vocations. But maybe He is. But it might be as simple as rejecting those things that are contrary to the Word of God. Maybe changing people, places and things in your life. What is God saying to you?

Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.

By Faith Alone By His Grace Alone And For His Glory Alone
