"And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed." - Mark 1:35
“[Some argue] I didn’t have to go to church to be a Christian, and they are right. Salvation is through faith alone in Christ alone. You also don’t have to go home to be married but you stay away long enough and your relationship will be affected.” Dr. Tony Evans
The same goes if you are not spending one-on-one time with God the other 6 days of the week and not just attending church. In Experiencing God, the second spiritual reality or principle is that "God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal." I think it is easier to imagine that God loved the world (John 3:16) but that He is interested in a personal relationship with me? That can be a bit of a stretch for some. And because of that, Sunday morning is enough time sent with God. Corporate worship and personal worship are not the same thing. We should not neglect either one. And if we do, there spiritual are consequences. Corporate worship - going to church - should be a culmination - the icing on the cake which is your spending personal time with God - through prayer and the Word.
Prayer is you talking to God - the Word is God talking to you. It is an easy thing to neglect, too easy. One of the motivations for me writing these devotions is to encourage you to consider your spiritual nature - who you are in Christ. Jesus rose early to start His day spending time with His Father. Not a bad habit. Your flesh will give you plenty of reasons to stay in bed or do something that is more pressing on your time. Read the following verse and ask yourself "Do I really?".
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment." - Matthew 22:36-38
Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.
