Be Careful Lest You Sin

My Utmost For His Highest

‘If we are not attentive, we will be completely unaware of the source of the discernment God has given us, becoming critical of others and forgetting that God says, […] Be careful that you don’t become a hypocrite by spending all your time trying to get others right with God before you worship Him yourself.’ CHAMBERS

When you see another believer doing things that ought not be done, you have a choice in how your respond. You can judge them for it … which we are told not to do … you can criticize them for it, another form of judgment . .. which we are told not to do … or you can acknowledge their sin  and pray for them.  But in that we should not accommodate it by pretending that it did not happen or that is somehow permissible. Nor does this mean that there are no consequences for the sins committed. The issue here is about how we respond to what others do.

We must be careful that in our response to others, we do not sin ourselves.  You know when that happens because your heart will tell you.  The feelings that well up inside you are a little bit like anger … it is a hardness .. there is no love for the person … only condemnation for what they have done … it is at that point that we sin ourselves.  How we respond to others is always to be with a view to see them repent and turn to God.  So pray for each other.  God did not make you an “in-speck-tor”  that you should be removing the specks from other people’s eyes. He made you an intercessor so that you could intercede on their behalf.
