Our attitude toward life … other people … world
events … how we respond … depends upon our spiritual disposition. We have two natures … when I was a child, I
watched cartoons that depicted someone with an angel (the Spirit) on one
shoulder and a devil (the flesh) on the other.
Each was trying to get the attention of the character to influence his
behavior. Every day is a struggle. We
know how we should respond to life, but before we know it, our flesh has taken over. Really what it boils down to is what you set
your mind to.
(Philippians
4:4-9) “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it
again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not
be anxious about anything, but in every
situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and
sisters, whatever is true, whatever is
noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Whatever you have learned or received
or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of
peace will be with you.”
If you believe that you can’t help yourself … you
are believing the truth …. Flesh cannot conquer flesh … but Spirit can. If you have a problem with anger .. envy … lust
for possessions …… speaking poorly of others … what ever (read Galatians
5:19-21) it means that you are struggling with your flesh … your old nature
… living in subjection to your flesh is not the life you have been called to .. empowered for … But the
Christian who has their mind set on Christ … their response to life is quite
different .. (read Galatians
5:22-23) Don’t make excuses for your flesh and its desires … Turn to Jesus
and live.
