Your Life is Not Your Own

My Utmost For His Highest

“That attitude chooses our own judgment, instead of Jesus Christ, to be our guide as to where we should go and where we could be used the most. Never consider whether or not you are of use— but always consider that “you are not your own” (1 Corinthians 6:19). You are His.” CHAMBERS

Have you ever known someone who was hired to do a particular job, but then they just sort of did what they pleased?  Let’s say they were hired to drive a truck and make deliveries of some sort.  But when it was time to make the deliveries, they were nowhere to be found.  The truck was out of gas.  The purpose for their being hired was not being fulfilled, but they still expected a pay check at the end of the week.  Now you may be thinking, why not just fire them .. and I agree. You might think that person does not appreciate the fact that they even have a job.  They are taking it for granted.

But you know, that is how we treat the Lord at times.  We have not been hired, we have been saved.  God doesn’t want us to drive a truck but He does want us to be faithful to live our lives in the light of His Word.  We should not live the life that we want to live and then show up for our paycheck at the end of our life.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:1-4)

Remember the difference between criticism and encouragement? It’s the motive behind the words.   I trust these words will encourage you to remember the great gift God has given us … that our lives are not our own and that you will let your light shine before all men.

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.  (Matthew 5:13-16)
