Time To Say Yes To God And No To You

Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve the Lord…" —Joshua 24:19

Do you have even the slightest reliance on anything or anyone other than God? Is there a remnant of reliance left on any natural quality within you, or on any particular set of circumstances? Are you relying on yourself in any manner whatsoever regarding this new proposal or plan which God has placed before you? Will you examine yourself by asking these probing questions? It really is true to say, “I cannot live a holy life,” but you can decide to let Jesus Christ make you holy. “You cannot serve the Lord…”— but you can place yourself in the proper position where God’s almighty power will flow through you. […]  “The people said to Joshua, ‘No, but we will serve the Lord!’ ” (Joshua 24:21). This is not an impulsive action, but a deliberate commitment. We tend to say, “But God could never have called me to this. I’m too unworthy. It can’t mean me.” It does mean you, and the more weak and feeble you are, the better. The person who is still relying and trusting in anything within himself is the last person to even come close to saying, “I will serve the Lord.” CHAMBERS

Have you ever wondered why God included what He included in the Bible?  Of the millions of possibilities, He included 66 books of stories, encouragement, commandments and cautions.  Who was this intended for?  His children.  What was it intended for?  2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  Did you catch that?  The servant of God .. not the person that has nothing to do with God.  It’s intent is to help us with the assist of the Holy Spirit.  So …. When it says in Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust God and not ourselves in everything.  Why do you think God tells us that?  Because our tendency will be to trust ourselves and not God.  Which is what most of us do most of the time.

Martie and I have seen God do some pretty amazing things.  God has used us for His purpose and glory.  We know that what has been accomplished through us is far beyond what we could have done on our own.  I am amazed that He chose me to join Him in this work.  Yet, if I am His child, and I am, then why would He not.  God is revealing Himself to the world through the Saints.  He wants to do that in and through your life.  But you have to yield your will .. your everything to Him.  He will take you beyond yourself .. There is a song that the Haitians sing  “Our God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing that He cannot do.”  Aren’t you getting tired of trying to make your life right in your own strength and wisdom?  Two words .. .STOP IT!  Think about it.  ELGIN
