Do You Have A Wet Wick?

“The teachings of Jesus are all out of proportion when compared to our natural way of looking at things, and they come to us initially with astonishing discomfort. We gradually have to conform our walk and conversation to the precepts of Jesus Christ as the Holy Spirit applies them to our circumstances. The Sermon on the Mount is not a set of rules and regulations— it is a picture of the life we will live when the Holy Spirit is having His unhindered way with us.” CHAMBERS

(Matthew 5:3-11) "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.”

I am sure, like me, you have read the beatitudes, the sermon on the mount, many times.  I never really thought of them in the context of my life, but someone else’s life.  Like Jesus meant them for a different group of people.  But Jesus was talking about the children of God.  We are NOT all God’s children … we ARE all God’s creation.  (1 John 3:1) “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”   We are His children because of our rebirth – our adoption through faith in Jesus Christ… The sermon on the mount is about us.  It describes an other-worldly life … a supernatural existence in the natural world.  Why God doesn’t just take us to heaven, I don’t know for sure.  But I suspect it has something to do with drawing others to Him through us as we live our lives in obedience to His Word and in spite of the trouble we experience in this world.  If you are clinging to this world and what it has to offer, you will not fulfill your purpose .. and if that doesn’t bother you … motivate you to look heavenward for help … your “wick” is wet … I pray that God will bring conviction which leads to godly sorrow and repentance. And if you are clinging to Jesus .. praise the Lord … continue to press on toward the mark of your high calling … Let the fire of the Spirit burn brightly so your life points people to Jesus.  Think about it.  ELGIN
