Encouraging One Another ... Shakin' It Up

“Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” —Hebrews 10:24-25

“We are all capable of being spiritually lazy saints. We want to stay off the rough roads of life, and our primary objective is to secure a peaceful retreat from the world. […] The true test of our spirituality occurs when we come up against injustice, degradation, ingratitude, and turmoil, all of which have the tendency to make us spiritually lazy. While being tested, we want to use prayer and Bible reading for the purpose of finding a quiet retreat. We use God only for the sake of getting peace and joy.CHAMBERS

Why do you stir something up?  Have you ever had something in the refrigerator that, when left alone, separated into layers of ingredients?  Like it was seeking to return to its former state.  So when you took it out of the refrigerator, you got a spoon and stirred it, to remix the contents … or maybe shook it to remix the contents. You wanted it to be what it been made into, not what it was before.  That is an analogy of a Christian.  It is what Hebrews is saying.  We need to be encouraged to live our new lives in Christ.  Not to return to the way we lived .. to the things we did .. before we were born again.  Why do we have to be told that?  Because Bondye konnen … God knows … if left by ourselves … we will return to our former state … the call of the flesh is strong .. you know that … I see so many people who have drifted back to where they were before Jesus.  Struggling with life … thinking that what they are doing is as good as it is going to get for them.  Always living in the context of the natural and not the supernatural.  They have distanced themselves from those who might stir them up, and surrounded themselves with those who are headed for the wide gate … You may be one of those Christians or you may be one of the Christians who needs to stir those Christians up. If you are the former, I am not condemning you or trying to make you feel guilty, but want to encourage you to draw near to God … if you are the latter … you know someone who needs encouragement ..  so encourage them.  Think about it.  ELGIN
