“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate …. his own life ..
he cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:26)
Am I willing to have no friends, no father, no brother, and no self-interest …
? That is the condition required of
sanctification. […] This is where the battles comes, and where so many of us
falter. We refuse to be identified with
the death of Christ on this point. We
say, but this is so strict. He surely
does not require that of me. It
[Sanctification] means being made one with Jesus. Sanctification is not something Jesus puts in
me – it is Himself in me. “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for
us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—“ (1 Corinthians 1:30) CHAMBERS
Do you want to be saved or do you want to be a
disciple? I think that there is too much
emphasis placed on Salvation alone and not enough on the life of the Saint
after salvation. There is a purpose for
living the sanctified life .. that goes beyond you not going to hell and living
a comfortable life until you go to heaven. You have a heavenly purpose that
will be unfulfilled if you have chosen to assimilate with your culture and made
it a priority to seek out the pleasures that this world has to offer and call
them blessings from God. Jesus said "I
do not pray for these alone [the disciples], but also for those who will believe in Me through their word [that is us]; that they all may be one, as You,
Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent
Me.” (John 17:20-21)
Don’t you see that the life you are living is to be so much
more than the daily grind … the relationships with family and friends … the
food you eat .. the possessions you have or don’t have. There is an eternal quality to your life that
is at the center of your new life in Christ .. an eternal purpose … “that the world may believe that the Father
sent the Son.” We are living testimonies
to the Gospel .. well, at least we are supposed to be. Unfortunately many of us can’t get past our
fleshly desires .. they consume us ..
they limit us … we live a pseudo spiritual existence … one of our own
definition that accommodates our plans and hopes and dreams and desires and
largely ignores God’s intent for us. We
are so self-absorbed we have become numb to the prompting of His Spirit. Romans 12:1-2 says this … “I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is
your reasonable service. And do not be
conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” How does your life measure up to that? Think about it. ELGIN
