Making Plans

My Utmost For His Highest

‘One of the most difficult questions to answer in Christian work is, “What do you expect to do?” You don’t know what you are going to do. The only thing you know is that God knows what He is doing. Continually examine your attitude toward God to see if you are willing to “go out” in every area of your life, trusting in God entirely. It is this attitude that keeps you in constant wonder, because you don’t know what God is going to do next. Each morning as you wake, there is a new opportunity to “go out,” building your confidence in God. “. . . do not worry about your life . . . nor about the body . . .” (Luke 12:22). In other words, don’t worry about the things that concerned you before you did “go out.”  Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do— He reveals to you who He is. Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you “go out” in complete surrender to Him until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does?’ CHAMBERS

Following God in faith.  When I was in the Army, I had a 5 and 10 year plan for career progression.  The plan included schools, assignments and promotions.  It all made sense … and I was following it pretty well, that is until God showed up. When that happened .. my plans didn’t mean much anymore.  Proverbs 16:9 “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

Since then, God has been calling us to a place and then showing us what we are to do. We may have had some general idea of what was going to happen, but never the details.  He has been teaching us to trust in Him and not ourselves.  That is so contrary to our nature … but that is really the point isn’t it?  God has given us a new nature .. one that is birthed by faith and His Spirit and one that is fueled by faith and His Spirit.  What is God calling you to? Does it seem uncertain?  Risky?  Irresponsible?  Don’t misunderstand me, I am not suggesting that God will ask you to do something that is contrary to His Word or His character, but He will ask you to do something that is counter to human wisdom.

Maybe He already has.  Will you lay your nets down and follow Him?  Will you stop trying to fulfill your 5 year plan and listen to God’s voice?  Say yes to God.
