“Which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down
first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it…” —Luke 14:28
“Our Lord was not referring here to a cost which we have to
count, but to a cost which He has already counted. The cost was those thirty
years in Nazareth, those three years of popularity, scandal, and hatred, the
unfathomable agony He experienced in Gethsemane, and the assault upon Him at
Calvary— the central point upon which all of time and eternity turn. Jesus
Christ has counted the cost. In the final analysis, people are not going to
laugh at Him and say, “This man began to build and was not able to finish”
(Luke 14:30).” CHAMBERS
Jesus did, as a man, what Adam failed to do. Jesus was
tempted in all ways, but did not sin. Hebrews
4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our
weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we
are—yet he did not sin.” Jesus was
tempted as a man. Because God cannot be tempted. And on the cross, as the
perfect sacrifice, Jesus said “It is finished”.
(John 19:30) He accomplished
the work God sent him to do.
Man cannot live apart from God and be successful in His
creation. Just as God designed the
flower to grow, and fulfill its intended purpose because of the nutrients in
the ground, water and sunlight, in its harmony with nature … so man can only
flourish and fulfill his purpose when he is in harmony with God. Man can choose another way, but he will not
flourish as God intended. Jesus was and
is a message from God .. We need God. Many, many people live in defiance to God. They say they do not need him to live. A fruit tree can live without producing fruit
.. but that is not its purpose. Perhaps
it is content with not yielding what it was created for. And so it is with us. In the end, the man who says he does not need
God will indeed not have Him, but will be separated from Him for eternity.
So the point made … you were created by God with the
intention that you walk with Him and fulfill the purpose He has for you. In Jesus, you have an eternal .. unbreakable
relationship with the Father, but you may choose to ignore that relationship
and go your own way with the culture that calls to you. James
4:4 “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world
means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the
world becomes an enemy of God.”
Something to think about. ELGIN
