“[…] we cannot do what God does, and that God will not do
what we can do. We cannot save nor sanctify ourselves— God does that. But God
will not give us good habits or character, and He will not force us to walk
correctly before Him. We have to do all that ourselves. We must “work out” our
“own salvation” which God has worked in us (Philippians 2:12). […] we must get
into the habit of doing things, and in the initial stages that is difficult. […]
Be determined to act immediately in
faith on what God says to you when He speaks, and never reconsider or change
your initial decisions. If you hesitate when God tells you to do something, you
are being careless, spurning the grace in which you stand. […] We have to get
into the habit of carefully listening to God about everything, forming the
habit of finding out what He says and heeding it. If, when a crisis comes, we
instinctively turn to God, we will know that the habit has been formed in us.”
CHAMBERS
So how do you hear God exactly? It may seem obvious, but our relationship
with God is spiritual. It is
supernatural. God speaks to you by His
Spirit through prayer, His Word, other believers (they have the same Spirit you
do) and circumstances. Typically God
speaks to you about something through more than one of these. You will get an impression while you pray and
read a verse in the Word, or perhaps another believer or more than one will
speak to you about something, that confirms the impression. It is then that you are at a critical point. The point of belief or unbelief. You have a choice of believing God and acting
on what He has said, or ignoring Him and going your own way.
Sometimes you need the help of other believers to know if it
is God speaking. If you recall the story
of Samuel and Eli in 1 Samuel 3. The Lord woke Samuel up, but Samuel did not
know it was the Lord. When it happened
the third time, Eli told Samuel .. “It’s the Lord speaking to you. The next time it happens say ‘Speak Lord for
your servant is listening’” Have you
ever been awakened in the early morning?
Perhaps it was not the supper you ate the night before that woke
you. Many times we know it’s God but
that is when the “what ifs” start. We
think “well, ‘what if’ this happens or ‘what if’ that doesn’t happen.” You are under the mistaken impression that
God will speak to you and then abandon you to go it alone. God asks you to act and live on His behalf
with His blessing and strength. Remember
Joshua 1:9 “The Lord will go with
you wherever you go” Doing what God says
will always require faith. But you will
never hear Him if you don’t put yourself in a place to listen. ELGIN

Bless You)
