Choosing To Sit In The Dark and Sweat

“When a person is born again, there is a period of time when he does not have the same vitality in his thinking or reasoning that he previously had. […] many of us prefer to stay at the entrance to the Christian life, instead of going on to create and build our soul in accordance with the new life God has placed within us. We fail because we are ignorant of the way God has made us, and we blame things on the devil that are actually the result of our own undisciplined natures. […] There are certain things in life that we need not pray about— moods, for instance. We will never get rid of moodiness by praying, but we will by kicking it out of our lives. Moods nearly always are rooted in some physical circumstance, not in our true inner self. It is a continual struggle not to listen to the moods which arise as a result of our physical condition, but we must never submit to them for a second. We have to pick ourselves up by the back of the neck and shake ourselves; then we will find that we can do what we believed we were unable to do. […] The Christian life is one of spiritual courage and determination lived out in our flesh.” CHAMBERS

Any principle or law must be applied to have its intended affect.  Like physical laws …. For example: What goes up must come down …. God has put spiritual principles in place .. rules if you will … that must be applied in our lives if we are going to experience God’s intent for our new life in Christ.  Like the physical .. if it doesn’t go up .. it won’t come down … If you don’t do the spiritual things that the Word says to do, then you will never see the effect of the principles in your life.  What Chambers called “staying at the entrance”.  You might even start to wonder if this “faith thing” works.

In Jeremie, we have electricity sometimes for 5 hours at night, sometimes for 2 hours, like last night, and sometimes not at all.  I have a small generator sitting outside.  If I put gas and oil in it and then start it, I can have electricity and lights and a ceiling fan. But if I don’t do those things I can sit in the dark and sweat.  It is amazing how many of us choose to sit in the dark and sweat … and maybe complain about having no electricity.  Here are some principles that you might think about trying out … ELGIN

1.      Trust in the Lord and not yourself and He will direct you (Proverbs 3:5,6)
2.      Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7)
3.      Meditate on the Word of God every day, do what is says, and you will be successful in your life (not necessarily your business) (Joshua 1:8)
