The Problem Is Not The Knowing It's The Going

“Never allow a feeling that was awakened in you on the mountaintop to evaporate. Don’t place yourself on the shelf by thinking, “How great to be in such a wonderful state of mind!” Act immediately— do something, even if your only reason to act is that you would rather not. If [..] God shows you something to do, don’t say, “I’ll do it”— just do it! Pick yourself up by the back of the neck and shake off your fleshly laziness. Laziness can always be seen in our cravings for a mountaintop experience; all we talk about is our planning for our time on the mountain. We must learn to live in the ordinary “gray” day according to what we saw on the mountain.” CHAMBERS

Immediate obedience … That is what God desires … Do you remember Gideon?  Because what God asked him to do was contrary to Gideon’s nature and beyond his ability. Gideon said ““Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”  (Judges 6:13) Then He laid out a fleece four different ways from Sunday … wanting to be sure it was God. Let’s contrast Gideon with Abraham.  The Lord told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.  Abraham did not question God, but should the depth of his faith in knowing that somehow, Isaac would survive even if sacrificed.  If we could see their hearts, like God can, we would have seen that Gideon lacked faith and wanted proof before he acted.  Abraham had faith and considered the sacrifice accomplished even before they left for the mountain.  That is where immediate obedience comes in … saying “yes” to God without proof .. without having to see … Do you remember what Jesus said to Thomas .. John 20:29 “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”  It is not a question of knowing it is a question of going.  Of saying 'yes' in your heart and then following God’s lead.  ELGIN
