“When our Lord rose from the dead, He rose to an absolutely
new life— a life He had never lived before He was God Incarnate. He rose to a
life that had never been before. And what His resurrection means for us is that
we are raised to His risen life, not to our old life. One day we will have a
body like His glorious body, but we can know here and now the power and
effectiveness of His resurrection and can “walk in newness of life” (Romans
6:4). Paul’s determined purpose was to “know Him and the power of His
resurrection” (Philippians 3:10).[…] The term Holy Spirit is actually another
name for the experience of eternal life working in human beings here and now.
The Holy Spirit is the deity of God who continues to apply the power of the
atonement by the Cross of Christ to our lives. Thank God for the glorious and
majestic truth that His Spirit can work
the very nature of Jesus into us, if we will only obey Him.” CHAMBERS
The Holy Spirit is the means by which we live this new life
of ours. Every believer has the Spirit
of God in them. Ephesians 1:13-14 “When
you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who
is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are
God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” He not only secures us, but He
guides us, teaches us, convicts us of sin.
But only if we will obey Him. He
is called the Spirit of Truth (John
16:13). We are cautioned not to
quench the Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:18-19 “give thanks in all circumstances; for this
is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit.” When we so “no”
to the Spirit, we quench the Spirit.
When we say “no” to the Spirit we say “yes” to the flesh. Some Christians have become so carnal that
they no longer hear the Spirit.
My parents had a ministry in their home to teenagers in the ’70s.
I remember seeing a poster on the wall
in their house of a Roman Soldier with words based upon Ephesians 6, The Full Armor of God. If Christians want to avoid carnality …
letting their old nature rule their lives, we must “put on the armor of God”
every day. ELGIN
Ephesians 6:10-17
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in
his mighty power. Put on the full armor
of God, so that you can take your stand
against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and
blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of
this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly
realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your
ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with
the belt of truth buckled around your
waist, with the breastplate of
righteousness in place, and with your
feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In
addition to all this, take up the shield
of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil
one. Take the helmet of salvation
and the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God.”
