Carrying The Load On Your Own

“Cast your burden on the Lord…” —Psalm 55:22

“ Many servants set out to serve God with great courage and with the right motives. But with no intimate fellowship with Jesus Christ, they are soon defeated. They do not know what to do with their burden, and it produces weariness in their lives. Others will see this and say, “What a sad end to something that had such a great beginning!” “Cast your burden on the Lord….” You have been bearing it all, but you need to deliberately place one end on God’s shoulder. […] Commit to God whatever burden He has placed on you. Don’t just cast it aside, but put it over onto Him and place yourself there with it. You will see that your burden is then lightened by the sense of companionship. But you should never try to separate yourself from your burden.” CHAMBERS

God never asks you to do something that you can do on your own.  You need His strength, His power, His wisdom, His patience to do anything spiritual.  Have you ever carried something with someone’s help and then they stopped lifting?  Suddenly you felt the weight of the load.  You were carrying it by yourself and it was more than you could do.  Such is the case when you try to live your new life, serve the Lord in some capacity on your own.  Without an abiding relationship with Him.  Not walking in the Spirit but the strength of your flesh.  It will most likely mean that you end up resenting the very people you were meant to serve.  You may become bitter.  What you think is loss of passion is actually a quenched Spirit.  Nebuchadnezzar was judged by God because he denied the glory of God and took the glory for his kingdom for his own.  King David did the same thing when he counted the people.  King Saul did the same thing when he decided to “do it himself” rather than trust God.  Sometimes it is hard to see God at work in what you are doing .. but it is by His grace and mercy that we live our new life.  It is by the indwelling of His Spirit that our lives are quickened to heavenly things.  ELGIN
