Checking Your Oil

My Utmost For His Highest

‘The best thing to do is to remember what you did before when you were touched by God. Recall the moment when you were saved, or first recognized Jesus, or realized some truth. It was easy then to yield your allegiance to God. Immediately recall those moments each time the Spirit of God brings some new proposal before you.
“. . . choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. . . .” Your choice must be a deliberate determination— it is not something into which you will automatically drift. And everything else in your life will be held in temporary suspension until you make a decision. The proposal is between you and God— do not “confer with flesh and blood” about it (Galatians 1:16).’ CHAMBERS

Doing God’s will is not automatic .. you must come to a ‘crisis of belief’, meaning that God will tell you to do something … God doesn’t make suggestions … but very often we treat what He says as if they were.  Actually what is happening is that we are exercising our will.  Let’s say your car engine needs oil to function properly .. and it does … the manufacturer designed it to use oil for lubrication.  When you first purchased the car, it was your pride and joy.  You washed it every week.  Checked everything to make sure it was just right.  But then, over time, you began to neglect things.  By inattention, you decided not to check oil … what happens?  The engine stops working … You exercised your will – your way …  and did things your way … and guess what … things don’t work out so well.  That is the same with life choices.  God tells us plainly how things are made to work.  When we first become Christians we have a shiny new life in Christ.  We are careful to do everything the ‘manufacturer’ tells us to do.  But as time goes on, we choose to do things our way instead .. and then one day there we sit broken down alongside the road … upset because the manufacturer messed up.

Chambers is speaking about God calling you to a specific thing .. maybe go to Haiti … you are the only one who knows if it was God .. others did not hear Him … the question is .. will you say yes?  Whether it is your life as a Christian or a specific  call as a Christian … you must choose to obey.  God does not give you proposals .. but commands  … The response is really simple .. yes or no …

“Yes Lord Yes, to your will and to your way, Yes Lord yes, I will trust You and obey.  When your Spirit speaks to me with my whole heart I’ll agree and I will answer yes, Lord, yes.”

That is my prayer for you today.  Let your light shine brighter than it did yesterday.
