Standing on the Right Ground

My Utmost For His Highest

‘ […] if we love someone, but do not love God, we demand total perfection and righteousness from that person, and when we do not get it we become cruel and vindictive; yet we are demanding of a human being something which he or she cannot possibly give. There is only one Being who can completely satisfy to the absolute depth of the hurting human heart, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord is so obviously uncompromising with regard to every human relationship because He knows that every relationship that is not based on faithfulness to Himself will end in disaster.’ CHAMBERS

Martie used to jokingly say that she told other women I was her NPH – nearly perfect husband.  As flattering as that might sound, we both knew that I was far from perfect .. maybe not when compared to other men … but when compared to Jesus .. then, I don’t even show up on the radar scope … Is there someone in your life that you expect to be perfect?  Maybe you even demand that they be perfect?  It is not going to happen … so why do we do that to ourselves and others.  I think it is because we put our faith and confidence in those people .. that their behavior and ability to meet our expectations becomes our measure of peace and confidence.  When they don’t measure up … our world is rattled.

We need to cut each other some slack.  We know the verses .. ‘There is none righteous’ (Romans 3:10)  ‘All have sinned’ (Romans 3:23) yet we still expect others to be beyond where even we are.  There is only one Jesus .. one savior … one Lord … There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.’ (Ephesians 4:4-6)

Let your life song be ….. ‘My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus and His righteousness.  …. On Christ the solid rock I stand … all other ground is sinking sand … all other ground is sinking sand!’
