‘The Holy Spirit is determined that we will have the realization of Jesus Christ in every area
of our lives, and He will bring us back to the same point over and over
again until we do. Self-realization only leads to the glorification of good
works, whereas a saint of God glorifies Jesus Christ through his good works.
Whatever we may be doing— even eating, drinking, or washing disciples’ feet— we
have to take the initiative of realizing and recognizing Jesus Christ in it.
Every phase of our life has its counterpart in the life of Jesus. Our Lord
realized His relationship to the Father even in the most menial task.’ CHAMBERS
The presence of Jesus in every area of my
life. Think about that. There is nothing that escapes His presence. But, I don’t always live that way. Very often I find I have subdivided my life
into the secular and the Spiritual. For
the past several years, Galatians
5 has loomed before my mind’s eye.
Beginning in about verse 18 Paul addresses the secular and the spiritual
in terms of human behavior. I try to use that as a measure for my response to
any particular situation … responding in the flesh is never OK if you are a
Christian … interpersonal conflicts tell me that the people are operating in
their own strength and not depending upon the Spirit. Those conflicts tell me that the Word is not
their guide in life. If, at this point,
you are thinking that I am not being realistic, I would hasten to remind you
that it is the Word of God that calls us to this manner of living .. not me ..
I merely remind you of what the Word says. Most people, I think, already know
what the Word says .. they just don’t practice it … they don’t practice it
because the Word is in their mind and not their heart. The Word does not determine how they respond
to the world. (Psalm
119:11) Most often it is their emotions that determine their response to
others.
Jesus is in every area of our lives. We are in the world, but [no longer] of the
world (John
17) We can let our light shine in many ways .. but perhaps it shines the
brightest in everyday circumstances .. when we show people Jesus in the
workplace .. at home … wherever we might be … It doesn’t matter if the people
we are dealing with are not Christians, what matters is that we respond in way
that brings glory to God and light to a
dark world.
