‘Readiness for God means that we are prepared to do the smallest thing or the largest thing – it makes no difference. It means that we have no choice in what we want to do, but whatever God’s plans may be, we are there and ready.’ CHAMBERS
There is a pattern that God reveals in the Bible, that He calls, prepares and sends. Each experience builds upon the previous. I have met thousands of Christians over the past 7 years in particular, who felt God tugging at their heart to go and serve. On one end of that spectrum are the people who don’t think they can do anything but are willing to do whatever they are asked to do. At the other end are those who are confident in their ‘natural’ abilities – say carpentry … and want to go build something … they came to ‘work’ and don’t want to waste time talking. They believe they have a choice in how they serve God. It is to those that I focus on and try to help them understand the spiritual context of what we are doing. Proverbs 16:9 says “Men make plans in their hearts, but God orders their steps.” I have asked an Atlanta labor lawyer to do data entry and a medical doctor to break down cardboard boxes. Humbling work, but it needed to be done and they did it without hesitation. When we say “Here am I”, it means .. God use me for your purpose, whatever that might be.
I think that when most people think about serving God they think of pastors and missionaries. But serving God is broader and deeper than that. God may have you in a place where you are living your life with friends, family and acquaintances … showing them Jesus in the way you live out your life right where you are. Or He may call you to go and serve … whatever He asks .. we are His ambassadors and should be representing Him in whatever we do both in words and deeds. So how about you? Are you living with a view toward God by faith in Him? Or are you merely living … trying to cut your own path, write your own version of the Bible .. define who you are what and what you are about? Micah 6:8 “He has told, o man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you. But to do justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
