I referenced this quote yesterday but I think it bears repeating. It speaks to the problem of being a Christian in name only.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!" - Matthew 7:21-23
Memorizing scripture, holding a position in a local church - wearing Christian paraphernalia - having Christian plaques in your home - they don't mean a thing. What your heart is surrendered to is what makes the difference between your being a sheep or a goat. (Matthew 25:32-33)
If the natural world is watching, and it is - it cannot see the heart of those who claim to be Christian - but they can hear what we say and watch what we do. The proof in the pudding?
"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” - John 13:35
It's love in action not merely words spoken - positions held that demonstrates our faith. Anyone can be given a Christian label - but that may be a mere distinction between not being a Muslim, Buddhist, or Jew. The label means nothing if it is not lived as a result of a person's rebirth, indwelling of the spirit and faithfulness to their calling from God the Father.
The world is echoing Jesus' conversation with Peter in John 21. The world is asking, "Do you love me Christian? Then show me!" Well ... do you?
Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.
