“Enoch walked with God…” —Genesis 5:24
“In learning to walk with God, there is always the
difficulty of getting into His stride, but once we have done so, the only
characteristic that exhibits itself is the very life of God Himself. The
individual person is merged into a personal oneness with God, and God’s stride
and His power alone are exhibited. […] He has different ways of doing things, and we
have to be trained and disciplined in His ways. It was said of Jesus— “He will
not fail nor be discouraged…” (Isaiah 42:4) because He never worked from His
own individual standpoint, but always worked from the standpoint of His Father.
And we must learn to do the same. […] It
is God’s Spirit that changes the atmosphere of our way of looking at things,
and then things begin to be possible which before were impossible. Getting into
God’s stride means nothing less than oneness with Him. It takes a long time to
get there, but keep at it. Don’t give up because the pain is intense right now—
get on with it, and before long you will find that you have a new vision and a
new purpose.” CHAMBERS
When I was a younger man, I ran almost every day .. rain or
shine .. cold or hot. When I ran, my
focus was not on how I felt, if I was comfortable. I focused on the running. I never looked at my feet, but I looked
ahead. I focused on a goal. Running to the sign ahead, then to the
intersection, then to the light pole, and so it went. That is the way our walk with the Lord
is. (Isaiah 50:7) “Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be
disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be
put to shame.” There are many things
that would distract us from our spiritual walk.
The key is that by focusing on the Lord, making Him our
priority, even though we are in the midst of trials, we can continue to run. If
we look at our “feet”, that is our ability and inability, we will stumble and
fall. I had a rule .. keep running ..
don’t stop. When I ran in the Army we
would often chant “Here we go. All the
way. Up the hill. Down the hill. Through the hill. Can’t stop.
Won’t stop.” (Hebrews 12:1-2) “Therefore, since we
are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything
that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing
our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.” Don’t stop … keep running. ELGIN
“I’m runnin’ where the rivers are flowin’. I runnin’ where the grapes are growin’. I’m runnin’, yes I’m runnin’ in Canaan’s
Land, it’s really grand. In my heart
there’s joy divine. Just to know that
the Lord is mine. I’m runnin’, yes, I’m runnin’ in Canaan’s land.”
