Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world."
—John 18:36
“We must get rid of the plague of the spirit of this
religious age in which we live. In our Lord’s life there was none of the
pressure and the rushing of tremendous activity that we regard so highly today,
and a disciple is to be like His Master. The central point of the kingdom of
Jesus Christ is a personal relationship with Him, not public usefulness to
others. It is not the practical activities that are the strength of [your life
in Christ]— its entire strength lies in the fact that here you are immersed in
the truths of God to soak in them before Him. You have no idea of where or how
God is going to engineer your future circumstances, and no knowledge of what
stress and strain is going to be placed on you […] And if you waste your time in over-activity,
instead of being immersed in the great fundamental truths of God’s redemption,
then you will snap when the stress and strain do come. But if this time of
soaking before God is being spent in getting rooted and grounded in Him, which
may appear to be impractical, then you will remain true to Him whatever
happens.” CHAMBERS
How we respond to life, as a Christian, is absolutely dependent
upon the depth of our relationship with, our intimate understanding of
Jesus. Suppose someone gives you a gun
for protection. You accept it and put it
in your pocket. Then the day comes when
you need to use the gun. You pull it out
of your pocket, point it and pull the trigger.
Nothing happens. Why? Because the gun is a semi-automatic requiring
you to charge the first round in the chamber before you pull the trigger. Since you were not familiar with the weapon,
it was of little value to you when you needed it. The may be the most uncommon analogy that you
have never seen about your relationship to Jesus .. but the point is this. If you don’t draw close to Him every day. If you don’t seek to know Him through the
Word. Then when the time comes .. when you really need Him … you will find
yourself struggling on your own … Your relationship with Jesus will have little
value at the point of your greatest need.
That is not what Jesus intended for us. A couple of verses to ponder … maybe three. ELGIN
(Matthew 11:28-30)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take
my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and
you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9)
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my
weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
(1 Peter 5:7) “Cast
all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
