Tempted To Not Seek The Gory Of God But Your Own

"The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.” - John 3:29-30

That was John The Baptist speaking of Jesus. John had been heralding Jesus - the Messiah coming to earth. His job was done and now Jesus ministry was to begin and His purpose for coming was to be fulfilled. This is the same John that Jesus spoke of.

"This is he of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’  Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.  For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come." - Matthew 11:10-14

There was no man who was greater than John the Baptist. In all of human history? Wow!! Now there is an opportunity to get somebody "puffed up"!  And yet, John said that he had to decrease in deference to Jesus. This is a great lesson and a caution. It is easy to take credit for our accomplishments in life, whether in the secular realm or spiritual. After all - it is you people see and you that has apparently accomplished whatever it is that was done. But is it and was it?

I had no part in who I am - except as a steward of what God has done in forming me. Everything that we might accomplish in this life is or should be for and to the glory of God. To give God credit, from the world's view, may seem like a nice touch, perhaps feigned humility, but that doesn't change people's impression that it was me and not God that did it.

We have to be careful that we don't rob God of His glory. We must decrease in our hearts and the eyes of man so that He can increase in all things. Our lives are to be a testimony of God's grace and mercy to a lost world. Our lives should point people to Him and not back to us. Even in the simplest things in life.

"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God" - Micah 6:8

Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.

By Faith Alone By His Grace Alone And For His Glory Alone
