"Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." - Colossians 4:5-6
There is a mean spirit that is running through our country. You can see it everywhere - the vitriolic language on television, social media, and news media - words willed with anger and fear - I think. The worst of profanity being printed and spoken with impunity. People don't know what to do - how to turn the ship except by a mutiny of the crew. Mutiny in the country known for its Bounty. Well I guess someone already tried that didn't they. Violence has been embraced as a means of expression - in our schools - in our streets - even in our local, state and national government - in all three branches in Washington. As Christians we are encouraged to redeem the time. Letting our speech be full of grace - seasoned with salt. If you recall salt does three things - it adds flavor, it preserves, and it heals. We are encouraged to speak to others in the way that we ought - in a way that brings glory to God.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." - (Jesus) Matthew 5:13-14
That is our calling in these dark days. Salt and light. There are no lasting answers to the problems the world faces except one. One that transcends the generations. That would be Jesus.
I [Jesus] must work the works of Him [God the Father] who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”- John 9-4:5
There will be a time when the light will no longer be available to the world. For now, Jesus is the light through us - the Body of Christ - so long as we walk and live by the power of the Spirit. We all need wisdom to know how to speak to those who are in the darkness as well as those Christians who struggle with letting their light shine. Some have laid their faith aside to join in with those who incite the craziness that reigns. Resist the temptation to join in the madness that has engulfed the world. Be the light you have been called to be. Be a peculiar people, a holy nation.
Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.
By Faith Alone By His Grace Alone And For His Glory Alone
