…who Himself bore our sins in
His own body on the tree… —1 Peter 2:24
“The Cross of Christ is the
revealed truth of God’s judgment on sin. […] It was the supreme triumph, and it
shook the very foundations of hell. There is nothing in time or eternity more
absolutely certain and irrefutable than what Jesus Christ accomplished on the
Cross— He made it possible for the entire human race to be brought back into a
right-standing relationship with God. He made redemption the foundation of
human life; that is, He made a way for every person to have fellowship with
God. The Cross was not something that happened to Jesus— He came to die; the
Cross was His purpose in coming. He is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of
the world” (Revelation 13:8). […] The Cross is the central event in time and
eternity, and the answer to all the problems of both.[…]The reason salvation is
so easy to obtain is that it cost God so much.”
CHAMBERS
Imagine that you buy someone
an expensive gift. It is very fragile
and very beautiful. They tell you that
they love it and will always cherish it.
They are so excited. They want to
show everyone and tell them how much they love and appreciate what you have done
for them. When day you pay them a visit.
When you pull up in their drive you notice your gift is lying in the
front year. It’s been raining. The gift no longer shines as brightly as it
once did. There is a broken piece on the
gift. You are surprised, dismayed,
disappointed. Your friend makes some
excuses, but really doesn’t want to talk about it. That is how it is with us, the cross and
sin. There is no greater gift that
salvation. It came at a great cost. So often people are excited about their
salvation. They want to tell everyone about
it. They are so thankful to God. But then, sin enters into the picture. Life happens.
And the precious nature of the Cross and their salvation loses the
brilliance they once had. The Cross is “left
in the yard”. Neglected. Is it still the greatest gift?
Absolutely. But it is not held in the
esteem that it once was. Something else has captured your devotion. Take some time
to refresh your memory and your devotion this morning. ELGIN
“Take Me Back” Andraé Crouch
Take me back, take me back
dear Lord To the place where I first received you.
Take me back, take me back
dear Lord where I First believed.
I feel that I'm so far from
you Lord But still I hear you calling me
Those simple things that I
once knew, The memories are drawing me.
I must confess, Lord I've
been blessed But yet my soul's not
satisfied.
Renew my faith, restore my
joy And dry my weeping eyes.
I tried so hard, To make it all alone. I need your help Just to make it home.
