“Do you also want to go away?” —John 6:67
[…] “From that time many of His disciples went back and
walked with Him no more” (John 6:66). They turned back from walking with Jesus;
not into sin, but away from Him. Many people today are pouring their lives out
and working for Jesus Christ, but are not really walking with Him. One thing
God constantly requires of us is a oneness with Jesus Christ. After being set
apart through sanctification, we should discipline our lives spiritually to
maintain this intimate oneness. […] Peter saw in Jesus only someone who could
minister salvation to him and to the world. But our Lord wants us to be fellow
laborers with Him. In John 6:70 Jesus
lovingly reminded Peter that he was chosen to go with Him. And each of us must
answer this question for ourselves and no one else: “Do you also want to go
away?” CHAMBERS
It is so easy to serve God in our own strength. We do the same things … as if we were serving
in the power of the Spirit … wholly devoted to the Lord … but there is no
eternal fruit .. just a lot of activity .. activity that has the appearance of
being godly. Jesus demands complete
devotion … total sacrifice … He demands hard things that can be accomplished
only by the power of the Spirit … not the vain strivings of the flesh. Imagine you are running in formation … the
pace is set … you settle down to the sound of feet hitting the street in
unison. But then, the leader picks the
pace up … your lungs are already burning … you just can’t do it … so you
continue to run at the slower pace …. People start passing you … soon you are
at the back of the formation … and then …
the formation leaves you … you are still running … but you are by
yourself. That is how it is when you
leave Jesus … He knows what He can do through you .. but you lack the faith to
follow …. You decide that what you are doing is OK and spiritual … Jesus asks
.. “Why did you leave me?” ELGIN
