‘Jesus Christ never trusted human nature, yet He
was never cynical nor suspicious, because He had absolute trust in what He
could do for human nature.’ CHAMBERS
Do you know someone who is a professing Christian
and yet you see sin in their lives. It
is sin that they deny or perhaps ignore.
You see it as a great inconsistency in their verbal testimony. They say “God is good” and “Praise the Lord!”
but at the same time … are doing things that are clearly contrary to the
teaching of the Word. That someone might
even be you. But let’s say it is not,
this time. You must be on your guard
that you do not allow the sinful actions of others to make you cynical towards
them and others. To be cynical is to
have contempt or distrust concerning a particular person or group of people. This can easily happen when you are ministering
to others or serving with other Christians even. They may prefer their culture over the Word …
your purpose may well be to help them see the error of that way of life. But instead, what often happens is that you
become frustrated and cynical … which leads to a judgmental attitude, which …
in the end, causes you to sin. You don’t
have to accept the sin, but at the same time, you must guard against cynicism. It will only lead to division and more sin. The
devil is always looking for a foothold …
Ephesians
4:27,31-32 “and do not give the devil a foothold. … Get rid
of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form
of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just
as in Christ God forgave you.”
