‘Perseverance […] is endurance combined with
absolute assurance and certainty that what we are looking for is going to
happen. Perseverance means more than just hanging on, which may be only
exposing our fear of letting go and falling. Perseverance is our supreme effort
of refusing to believe that our hero [Jesus] is going to be conquered. Our greatest fear is not that we will be damned, but that somehow Jesus Christ will be defeated. Also, our fear is that
the very things our Lord stood for— love, justice, forgiveness, and kindness
among men— will not win out in the end and will represent an unattainable goal
for us. […] spiritual perseverance. […is
] not to hang on and do nothing, but to work deliberately, knowing with
certainty that God will never be defeated.
If our hopes seem to be experiencing
disappointment right now, it simply means that they are being purified. […] one of the greatest stresses in life is the
stress of waiting for God.’ CHAMBERS
Have you ever noticed how the Bible, spiritual
devotions or a word from another Christian seem to line themselves up with our
circumstances. We should not be
surprised. God speaks by the Holy Spirit
through prayer, the Bible, and other Christians. This life we live requires faith in God, hope
in God, and love of God. Our relationship with Him must be the first thing in our
lives. Fear enters in when we lose sight
of God and focus on the problem. Suddenly
the problem takes priority as the first thing.
There are so many problems that are beyond us. They are giants compared to our ability to
solve them or make them go away. But God
is able and willing but we must trust Him.
That does not mean the problem necessarily goes away. God more often
takes us through something rather than saving us from it. But whatever He chooses to do, we must be
faithful .. and trust Him. James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials
of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces
perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and
complete, not lacking anything”.
