Who Do You Love?

My Utmost For His Highest

‘The essential thing is my personal relationship with Jesus Christ— “. . . that I may know Him. . .” (Philippians 3:10). To fulfill God’s perfect design for me requires my total surrender— complete abandonment of myself to Him. Whenever I only want things for myself, the relationship is distorted. And I will suffer great humiliation once I come to acknowledge and understand that I have not really been concerned about realizing Jesus Christ Himself, but only concerned with knowing what He has done for me. My goal is God Himself, not joy nor peace, Nor even blessing, but Himself, my God.’ CHAMBERS

So there are two ways you can live your new life .. first, is to continue to live your life as you always have .. focused on how to get the most out of the 70 or 80 years you might live on this planet …. calling on God when you need something .. expecting Him to bring you material and financial prosperity … guard you from illnesses, disappointment … allow you to live your life .. enjoying your culture and the comforts that all Americans should enjoy.

The second way is in total abandon to God, having an eternal perspective while we live this mortal life.  Offering your life to Him and realizing the blessing of the resulting fruit of the Spirit in your life. Specifically for Christians in the U.S., blessing does not equal material or financial accumulation   Blessing does not mean the absence of trouble … the absence of sickness or disappointment .. that is our cultures’ definition of blessing.  Blessing is having the presence of God in your life … that in spite of what may come … you are able to stand in the face of it .. with confidence and hope.

All Christians know the ‘right’ way is the second way … so why do so few actually live that way?  It is a problem with a divided heart.  God said you can’t love both … you are only deceiving yourself.  Actually you only love one of them .. and you hate the other. You don’t have to move to Haiti to be faithful to God .. you just have to surrender your heart .. your devotion to the things of this world.

(1 John 2:15-17 NKJV) “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

“All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give.  I will ever love and trust Him, in His presence daily live.  I surrender all” This is normally sung during an altar call … but it should be the commitment of every Believer every day …
