A Form Of Godliness

My Utmost For His Highest

‘We simply begin to act on our own initiative. If we are eating only out of our own hand, and doing things solely on our own initiative without expecting God to come in, we are on a downward path. We have lost the vision. Is our attitude today an attitude that flows from our vision of God? Are we expecting God to do greater things than He has ever done before?’ CHAMBERS

There is always a temptation to live the Christian life in our own strength.  Oh, we can do good things, but we don’t see great things done.  We think up good ideas but they are not motivated by great inspiration.  Zechariah 4:6  So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts. We act with good intentions but we lack the power to achieve the supernatural. 2 Timothy 3:5  […] having a form of godliness but denying its power.

God does not expect us to do anything on our own for Him but only to obey His call and leading.  It is all God … Our challenge is not to get in the way, thinking that we can do on our own, what only God can do.  We might do good things .. but we will never achieve God’s purpose or see His glory displayed through our obedience. If that is what I am going to be satisfied with, well, I might as well be a greeter at Wal-Mart, for all the good it does the kingdom of God.
