Do you believe this? —John 11:26
‘Martha
believed in the power available to Jesus Christ; she believed that if He had
been there He could have healed her brother; she also believed that Jesus had a
special intimacy with God, and that whatever He asked of God, God would do.
But— she needed a closer personal intimacy with Jesus. Martha’s theology had
its fulfillment in the future. But Jesus continued to attract and draw her in
until her belief became an intimate possession. It then slowly emerged into a
personal inheritance— “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ . . .” (John 11:27)
Is the Lord dealing with you in the same way? Is Jesus teaching you to have a personal intimacy with Himself? Allow Him to drive His question home to you— “Do you believe this?” Are you facing an area of doubt in your life? Have you come, like Martha, to a crossroads of overwhelming circumstances where your theology is about to become a very personal belief? This happens only when a personal problem brings the awareness of our personal need.’ CHAMBERS
Do you live your life every day aware that your Lord is the Creator God? The creator of the universe? That is an an amazing realization. That this life we have in Christ is supernatural … of present value … it’s not just a factoid about your life, but it is the central point of your life … it is what makes you distinctly different in this world. But for many Christians, I don’t think knowing Jesus goes beyond the salvation experience … Not that salvation is a small thing, but it is only the beginning of an eternal relationship. I asked the congregation at the church I preached at last Sunday if they realized that they were walking in eternity. When you are saved .. you are saved for eternity … you may be on this earth, but your home is in heaven. You are on mission here.
Peter knew Jesus was
from God, but did not understand that Jesus was God … but he made his
declaration when Jesus asked “Who do you say that I am?”.
Matthew
14:33 ‘Then those who were in the boat came and
worshiped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God." When Jesus and Peter got in the boat, those
in the boat realized that a mere man could not control the elements … only God
can do that.
John wrote in John
20:31 ‘but these are written that
you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing
you may have life in His name.’
We need to understand who Jesus is and then walk
and live in the light of that understanding.
Is He our friend or our Lord? Is
He our buddy or our Savior? Have we become
too familiar with Jesus so we fail to understand the significance of our
relationship? The friend may give advice
.. but your Lord is giving you a command … Have you ever heard the phrase ‘You
are not the boss of me?’ Do you say that
to Jesus? You do when you choose to go
your own way.
How can you worry if you really know that Jesus is
your Lord? How can you not walk in the
light if you know that He is the light and in Him is no darkness? Yield whatever doubt, whatever devotion you are
holding on to .. give it to God …
John
1:1-5 ‘ In the
beginning was the Word [Jesus], and the Word [Jesus] was with God, and the Word
[Jesus] was God. He [Jesus] was with God in the beginning. Through him [Jesus] all
things were made; without him [Jesus] nothing was made that has been made. In
him [Jesus] was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’
Think about this today …
