"When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains." - Mark 13:7-8
Technology has made the world smaller. People who once may not have heard about something until months after it happened now know almost the instant that it happens. The "opium of the masses" is the smart phone. People's faces are glued to it. Their minds filled with visual input - most of it only a distant relative of truth and reality. Everyone is an actor and film maker.
Every generation has been faced with what it considered "as bad as it can get", but it isn't. Especially for the economically developed countries, the people know little about hardship - hardship in terms of what many people face every day in less developed countries.
In each generation there is a remnant that will yield their hearts and very lives to Jesus by faith in His death and resurrection. Like it or not - believe it or not - the majority of mankind is headed for the gates of hell - gas pedal on the floorboard. Hell bent, if you will.
"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." - Matthew 7:13-14
Will the world come to a cataclysmic end - yes. Will it happen in my lifetime? Perhaps but probably not. Jesus said that not even He knows when that will happen - only the Father knows.
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man." - Matthew 24:35-39
All I can encourage you to do is be ready. Be ready as if the Lord will return tonight. And if He does not, then know that your life may be required of you before the day breaks in the morning.
"And he [Jesus] told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God." - Luke 12:16-21
Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.
