Our Prime Directive

"Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God." - 2 Corinthians 5:18-20

Our Christian life is supposed to be so much more than getting saved, living a good life with our family and being kind to others.  All of those things are good things, but there is a greater expectation - God towards us and us towards the world. We were reconciled to God the Father by faith in Jesus. We have all been given a ministry of reconciliation. Ambassadors for Christ. Imploring the lost to be reconciled to God in the same way we were reconciled.

Do you consider that to be someone else's job? I mean doesn't the Bible say that God calls some to be evangelists and preachers? Yes - but why?

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." - Ephesians 4:11-12

For what purpose? Two purposes actually. First - for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry. Second - for the edifying [building up] of the body of Christ. Oh, so we all have a common ministry that we need to be equipped for. Uh - yeah! The ministry of reconciliation.

"How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!" - Romans 10:14-15

Does the thought of that make you uncomfortable? Nervous even? It does me. But that is when I am focused on myself. What I can do and not what God can do through me. This ministry is from God and requires the power of God. We are merely messengers - ambassadors - representatives. We tell people about Jesus and the cross. We don't save anybody. What they do with the message is between them and God. We are not responsible for their decision - only to do our part which is to go and tell.

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." - Acts 1:8

We all have been sealed by the Spirit of God and empowered by that same Spirit to fulfill our primary purpose, our Prime Directive, if you will indulge the Star Trek reference. Which is to lift up the name of Jesus and glorify God the Father as ministers of reconciliation to a world in desperate need of a Savior.

Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.

By Faith Alone By His Grace Alone And For His Glory Alone
