If You Are Walking In Darkness, Turn Your Light Back On

Be ready in season and out of season. —2 Timothy 4:2

{CHAMBERS} “The season does not refer to time; it refers to us. This verse says, “Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season.” In other words, we should “be ready” whether we feel like it or not. If we do only what we feel inclined to do, some of us would never do anything. There are some people who are totally unemployable in the spiritual realm. They are spiritually feeble and weak, and they refuse to do anything unless they are supernaturally inspired. The proof that our relationship is right with God is that we do our best whether we feel inspired or not. One of the worst traps a Christian worker can fall into is to become obsessed with his own exceptional moments of inspiration. […] If you say you will only be at your best for God, as during those exceptional times […] You will never do anything unless God keeps you consciously aware of His inspiration to you at all times.”

{ELGIN} There are no times when you are not a witness to those around you.  God leads you into situations where you may share the Gospel or you may speak spiritual truth or you may act that spiritual truth out in the way you work, speak, or participate in whatever is going on around you.  We often live like we are two people.  Spiritual and worldly – when we feel each is appropriate. We really don’t like to think of ourselves as worldly, but we are.  If our “light” is not shining and reflecting Jesus, then we are reflecting our old nature and blending in with those who live in darkness.  (1 John 1:5-7) “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

God has you where you are for His purpose.  Sometimes you may feel inspired by the Spirit for a special purpose, but most times you will feel no special inspiration. But, you will always of the light, the Spirit of God.  Be alert … recognize when you are being drawn to the darkness .. tempted to blend in .. to be conformed .. to think that who you are in Christ has no place in other settings.  Your life is not your own. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God …. “
