the simplicity that is in Christ. —2 Corinthians 11:3
“You cannot think through spiritual confusion to make things
clear; to make things clear, you must obey. In intellectual matters you can
think things out, but in spiritual matters you will only think yourself into
further wandering thoughts and more confusion. If there is something in your
life upon which God has put His pressure, then obey Him in that matter. Bring
all your “arguments and…every thought into captivity to the obedience of
Christ” regarding the matter, and everything will become as clear as daylight
to you (2 Corinthians 10:5). Your reasoning capacity will come later, but
reasoning is not how we see. We see like children, and when we try to be wise
we see nothing (see Matthew 11:25).” CHAMBERS
(Ephesians 1:18-19)
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know
what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His
inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power
toward us who believe.” Paul wrote that
we need spiritual eyesight to have understanding. That only comes from the Spirit. You can’t figure your new life out on your
own, the result will be that you will continue to live your own life. The triggers for spiritual understanding are
faith and obedience. A deepened faith
only comes from a deepened relationship with the Lord. That takes work .. deliberate action on our
part. Jesus didn’t say “you are coming
with Me, you have no choice”. He invited
others to choose to follow Him. As I am typing these words out, songs from the
past are running though my head.
“When we walk with the Lord In the light of His Word, What a
glory He sheds on our way; While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And
with all who will trust and obey.” Or
perhaps “The joy I can’t explain.. Fills
my soul, The day I made Jesus my king His Blessed Holy Spirit is leading my way
He's teaching and I'm learning to lean. Learning to lean, Learning to lean, I'm learning to lean on Jesus Finding more power
than I've ever dreamed I'm learning to
lean on Jesus.”
What was going on in the lives of the writers of those songs?
Most people write songs from the heart and their experience. Discovering that when you trust and obey
Jesus, you find joy. Finding that when
you cast all your cares on Him (1 Peter
5:7) that you find power to go on.
It’s all true .. but those truths often go unclaimed … instead we choose
to live our new live our way .. which is always the wrong way. I pray that the eyes your heart will be
opened so that you will know the hope of your calling and you will choose to
walk in it. ELGIN
