“Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you…”
—John 12:35
“The moment you forsake the matter of sanctification or
neglect anything else on which God has given you His light, your spiritual life
begins to disintegrate within you. Continually bring the truth out into your
real life, working it out into every area, or else even the light that you
possess will itself prove to be a curse.[…] Our Lord said, “…unless your righteousness
exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means
enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:20). In other words, you must be more
moral than the most moral person you know. You may know all about the doctrine
of sanctification, but are you working it out in the everyday issues of your
life? Every detail of your life, whether physical, moral, or spiritual, is to
be judged and measured by the standard of the atonement by the Cross of Christ.” CHAMBERS
Have you ever wondered why the apostles need to write
letters to the churches – the essence of the New Testament? It is because it is so easy to neglect the
Faith. To slide back into the old ways
of doing things .. the natural life. They
had to be reminded and encouraged. Times
and technology have changed, but the struggle has not. This is what Paul wrote to Titus reminding
him to remind others …
(Titus 3:1-8 ) “Remind the people to be subject to
rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to
slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward
everyone. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and
enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy,
being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our
Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but
because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by
the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our
Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs
having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that
those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what
is good. These things are
excellent and profitable for everyone.”
We all must be careful that that we are not drawn into
living in the manner in which we once lived.
And if we are living that way, we must repent. Think about it. ELGIN
