“[…] there is no
circumstance of life in which we cannot abide in Jesus. […] When we are in our best spiritual mood, you
would think we were the highest quality saints. But don’t dare look at us when
we are not in that mood. A true disciple is one who has his new name written
all over him— self-interest, pride, and self-sufficiency have been completely
erased. Pride is the sin of making “self” our god. And some of us today do this,
not like the Pharisee, but like the tax collector (see Luke 18:9-14). For you
to say, “Oh, I’m no saint,” is acceptable by human standards of pride, but it
is unconscious blasphemy against God. You defy God to make you a saint, as if
to say, “I am too weak and hopeless and outside the reach of the atonement by
the Cross of Christ.” Why aren’t you a saint? It is either that you do not want
to be a saint, or that you do not believe that God can make you into one.”
CHAMBERS
I read something on Facebook, which makes it reliable source, right?, about sin in a
Christians life. Is it OK to sin if God
has not “convicted” you of sin. Think
about that. Is that how you live your
life? To say that sin, which is the
reason Jesus went to the Cross, is acceptable if God has not convicted you
about it. Ok I am going to go out on a
limb here … my thinking is that, truth be told, you already know that it is
wrong, but you like it. Maybe even love it.
If that sounds inconsistent with the Christian life, that is because it
is. Sin is always inconsistent with our
new life in Christ. The point is not, do
we sin, of course we do, well at least I do, but when I say it may be sin but I
don’t feel convicted … that suggests I have a hard heart .. one not fully
devoted to the Lord. I have learned that
there will always be plenty of people ready to judge you .. that is not what I
am talking about … I am not even talking about the acts that are in the grey
areas … is it OK to drink .. that sort of thing … but when the Bible is clear
on a subject and we say, I don’t feel convicted, there is a problem. If a Christian with the right motive
addresses the sin in your life, then rather than reject them as if they were
the ones that are wrong you should be like the Bereans. (Acts
17:11) “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in
Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined
the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Did you catch that? They
were eager to know the truth and did not become angry over it. They went to the Word. The Word is truth and sin cannot stand
against. Something to think about. ELGIN
