“In the matter of drudgery. Peter said in this passage that
we have become “partakers of the divine nature” and that we should now be
“giving all diligence,” concentrating on forming godly habits (2 Peter 1:4-5).
We are to “add” to our lives all that character means. No one is born either
naturally or supernaturally with character; it must be developed. Nor are we
born with habits— we have to form godly habits on the basis of the new life God
has placed within us. We are not meant to be seen as God’s perfect,
bright-shining examples, but to be seen as the everyday essence of ordinary
life exhibiting the miracle of His grace. […] We say we do not expect God to
take us to heaven on flowery beds of ease, and yet we act as if we do! I must
realize that my obedience even in the smallest detail of life has all of the
omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it. If I will do my duty, not for
duty’s sake but because I believe God is engineering my circumstances, then at
the very point of my obedience all of the magnificent grace of God is mine
through the glorious atonement by the Cross of Christ.” CHAMBERS
What is it that God expects of me in this new life? Obedience.
Obedience that is born out of love not out of fear or expectation of
reward. Why obedience? Because in that obedience is the opportunity for
God to show His glory. It is the
opportunity for Him to move through my life in a way that shouts “There is a
God in heaven!” “There is a savior whose name is Jesus!” Have you ever heard the term “blind obedience”? To me it has a negative connotation: if you obey without question it will lead to
evil … Nazi Germany … Jim Jones … You should not confuse that with instant obedience
to God. You should not be blindly
obedient to men, but you should be instantly obedient to God in whom you have
put your faith. (Jeremiah 29:11) “For
I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Obedience to God is an act of faith. What we are asked to do is contrary to the wisdom
of the world and depends upon the supernatural. It always requires God’s power to accomplish. That is why you cannot ignore God or His Word
or His Church and expect to live your Christian life successfully. You must be
obedient in the small things and then you will be obedient in the big
things. (Luke 16:10) “He that is faithful [obedient] in that which is least
is faithful [obedient] also in much..” ELGIN
"Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey."
