“Not being reconciled to the fact of sin— not recognizing it
and refusing to deal with it— produces all the disasters in life. You may talk
about the lofty virtues of human nature, but there is something in human nature
that will mockingly laugh in the face of every principle you have. If you
refuse to agree with the fact that there is wickedness and selfishness,
something downright hateful and wrong, in human beings, when it attacks your
life, instead of reconciling yourself to it, you will compromise with it and
say that it is of no use to battle against it. Have you taken this “hour, and
the power of darkness” into account, or do you have a view of yourself which
includes no recognition of sin whatsoever? In your human relationships and
friendships, have you reconciled yourself to the fact of sin? If not, just
around the next corner you will find yourself trapped and you will compromise
with it. But if you will reconcile yourself to the fact of sin, you will
realize the danger immediately and say, “Yes, I see what this sin would mean.”
The recognition of sin does not destroy the basis of friendship— it simply
establishes a mutual respect for the fact that the basis of sinful life is
disastrous. Always beware of any assessment of life which does not recognize
the fact that there is sin.” CHAMBERS
One of the big problems we have with sin, is that the
consequence of that sin is never considered before we sin, it is only lived
out, later. Remember David and
Bathsheba? (2 Samuel 11-12) David killed a man to cover it up and then the baby
died. It is like the young man who takes a risk that could mean losing his
life, but he does not consider the possible consequences and if he does, he
thinks they may happen to someone else, but not to him. It is the young girl who gives in to a
physical relationship with a young boy dispelling the possible consequence of
pregnancy and yielding to the emotion of the moment. But she conceives and her life is radically
changed .. for the rest of her life, and not only hers but the boy’s, the baby’s,
and the extended family’s as well. When
we are tempted with sin, if we are not spiritually ready to meet and defeat
that temptation, we will be blinded to the consequence … the least being some
physical or relational consequence … the most being that we shut ourselves off
from the power of God in us. That is until we confess our sins, and God washes
our feet … we don’t have to be saved again … though some believe that .. but we
do need to be cleansed (1 John 1:9). And
what about the consequences … well, to our detriment, we must endure them. So why is it important to draw close to Jesus
every day? Think about it. ELGIN
