Walking Backwards and Trusting God

My Utmost For His Highest

‘A saint’s life is in the hands of God like a bow and arrow in the hands of an archer. God is aiming at something the saint cannot see, but our Lord continues to stretch and strain, and every once in a while the saint says, “I can’t take any more.” Yet God pays no attention; He goes on stretching until His purpose is in sight, and then He lets the arrow fly. Entrust yourself to God’s hands. […]Faith is not some weak and pitiful emotion, but is strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. And even though you cannot see Him right now and cannot understand what He is doing, you know Him.[…] Faith is the supreme effort of your life— throwing yourself with abandon and total confidence upon God.[…] The real meaning of eternal life is a life that can face anything it has to face without wavering. If we will take this view, life will become one great romance— a glorious opportunity of seeing wonderful things all the time.’ CHAMBERS

Living by faith is living on the dangerous side of life.  Trusting God when you feel like giving up.  As I am typing this I noticed a small crab on the inside of the window screen … hey it’s Haiti who knows how it got there … it is walking backwards and sideways … not forward .. it can’t see where it is going, only where it’s been.  That is very much like our walk with God.  From day to day, we don’t know what is going to happen .. we can’t see it … what we can see is where we have been.  We can see how God has been faithful in our lives in the past.  And in that knowing, we need to trust Him for the future.  We get sick and don’t know what will happen .. we lose our job and wonder how we will live .. we lose a relationship that we thought would last forever … through death, divorce or design …and wonder how we can go on. We feel stretched like we are going to break and then suddenly we take flight as God releases us toward His intended target.  The stress is gone and confidence has returned.  The feeling is glorious … hope is restored … even in the midst of the difficulty.  That is faith applied … that is resting in Jesus … that is the victorious Christian life.  My prayer is that you are walking in that place right now, no matter what you might be facing today.  That God is your strength and hope.

(Ephesians 3:14-21)For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
