I Want My Mommy!

My Utmost For His Highest
Who is the man that fears the Lord? —Psalm 25:12

‘The total being of our life inside and out is to be absolutely obsessed by the presence of God. A child’s awareness is so absorbed in his mother that although he is not consciously thinking of her, when a problem arises, the abiding relationship is that with the mother. In that same way, we are to “live and move and have our being” in God (Acts 17:28), looking at everything in relation to Him, because our abiding awareness of Him continually pushes itself to the forefront of our lives. If we are obsessed by God, nothing else can get into our lives— not concerns, nor tribulation, nor worries. And now we understand why our Lord so emphasized the sin of worrying. How can we dare to be so absolutely unbelieving when God totally surrounds us?’ CHAMBERS

I think about the scenes in movies where the full grown man is in great danger and he says “I want my mommy”.  It is the bond between the child and its mother that rises up when there is great distress.  A taunt you may have heard is “Go run to your mommy!” Meaning go to where you think it is safe. Where do you think it’s safe?  James 4:8 “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”  God is our refuge .. our anchor .. our safe harbor … our helper .. our shield … our defender … our rock … But, only if you go to Him .. if you choose to do things your own way .. trust in your own solutions … decided for yourself what is right and what is wrong … you will be like the child huddled in a corner .. alone .. desperate .. without hope … Spend time with God .. bond with Him .. and in times of trouble  … turn to Him …

Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
