‘The missionary’s message
is the limitless importance of Jesus Christ as the propitiation [the satisfaction of God’s wrath] for our
sins, and a missionary is someone who is immersed in the truth of that
revelation. […] The real key to the missionary’s message is the “remissionary”
aspect of Christ’s life, not His kindness, His goodness, or even His revealing
of the fatherhood of God to us. “. . . repentance and remission of sins
should be preached . . . to all nations . . .” (Luke 24:47).
[…] A missionary is someone
who is bound by marriage to the stated mission and purpose of his Lord and
Master. He is not to proclaim his own point of view, but is only to
proclaim “the Lamb of God.” […] Paul did not say, “Woe is me if I do not preach
what Christ has done for me,” but, “. . . woe is me if I do not preach the
gospel!” (1 Corinthians
9:16). And this is the gospel— “the Lamb of God who takes away the
sin of the world!’ CHAMBERS
I often quote from Matthew 25 … ministering to the
least of these … about the good Samaritan … about the two greatest commandments
– Matt 22:37-39. But what makes us
different from an aid worker? Someone
who wants to help a person in need? If
that is all we do, the answer is there is no difference. We could be Buddhist or Muslim or atheist,
even. The effect would be the same .. an
empty stomach filled, a death averted … a home rebuilt …
Everything we do must point people to Jesus … must
reveal the gospel to a lost world. There
are a couple of work teams that we have been partnered with for a number of
years .. form opposites sides of the country .. Georgia and California. They work hard, are expert in their trades ..
but never miss an opportunity to share the Gospel with those around them. They understand their mission … is to
proclaim the Gospel while they serve the physical needs of the people.
My brother was in another city in Haiti this summer,
helping a medical ministry. He asked if
they share the Gospel with people. They told
him no, that they let their good works point people to Jesus. He was amazed and disappointed. God did not call us to be mimes … silent
witnesses … hoping that somehow the people will get it. We are to tell people about Jesus and what He
has done for us and them … Romans 10:17 “faith
comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about
Christ.”
So … what
will you do? I say “Let your light shine”
.. and shout it from the mountain tops … Jesus saves!
