‘The Spirit of God witnesses to the redemption of our Lord, and
to nothing else. He cannot witness to our reason. We are inclined to mistake
the simplicity that comes from our natural commonsense decisions for the
witness of the Spirit, but the Spirit witnesses only to His own nature, and to
the work of redemption, never to our reason. If we are trying to make Him witness to our reason, it is no wonder
that we are in darkness and uncertainty. Throw it all overboard, trust in
Him, and He will give you the witness of the Spirit.’ CHAMBERS
When is it God and when is it you? Sometimes it is hard to discern. James
4:3 “You ask and do not receive,
because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” Do you
want God’s best for your life? Or do you want what you think will make your
life better? There is a difference. Have you ever seen a family where the child
was dictating what was done? When you
see that you know that there is something amiss. There is no way that the child can know what
is best … in fact all the child knows is what it wants.
So it is with us … we know what we want and we
present it to God .. with the expectation that if He is really God, if He
really loves us .. He will give us what we want .. and if He doesn’t … well He
is not much of a God then is He? Are you
thinking, I would never do that. I think
we all have demanded things of God.
Some want God to bless their choices … “I want to
live my life the way I want to live it and God should bless me, and will if He
is really God” When Jesus was tempted in
the desert He told Satan that you should not tempt God. Matthew 4:5,7 ‘Then the devil
took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and
said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. […] Jesus said to him, “It is written again,
‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’
So how do you not do those things? By staying in tune with the Lord … trusting
Him and not yourself (Prov 3:5-6) …
laying your life .. hopes .. dreams .. desires .. on the altar …seeking Him
through His Word …. Doing what He tells you to do even when it is contrary to
what you prefer. That is called walking
humbly with God .. walking by faith and not by sight …
Living like that is not something you turn on
and off like a light switch … it’s not like that $20.00 bill you keep tucked in
your wallet or purse for emergencies … it is a way of life …
