The Love of God

My Utmost For His Highest

“The first thing God does is forcibly remove any insincerity, pride, and vanity from my life. And the Holy Spirit reveals to me that God loved me not because I was lovable, but because it was His nature to do so. Now He commands me to show the same love to others by saying, “. . . love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). He is saying, “I will bring a number of people around you whom you cannot respect, but you must exhibit My love to them, just as I have exhibited it to you.” This kind of love is not a patronizing love for the unlovable— it is His love, and it will not be evidenced in us overnight. Some of us may have tried to force it, but we were soon tired and frustrated.” CHAMBERS

Do you have people in your life that challenge your witness as a Christian.  Consider that perhaps God is using them to shape you and teach you.  Reading about how to drive a car and driving a car are two very different things.  So is showing the love of God.  We tend to be selective about who we show that love to … deciding who deserves it and who doesn’t.  You don’t have to like a person to love them … How you treat them should not be a reflection of  your attitude toward their personality, way of doing things, or even how they treat you … but a reflection of the love of God that has captured your heart and soul.  The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell … Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made, were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade, to write the love of God above would drain the ocean  dry, not could the scroll contain the whole thought stretched from sky to sky.’ F.M. Lehman

Showing that kind of love to the world does not come naturally .. but supernaturally.

1 Corinthians 13:13  ‘And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.’
