Where is Your Heart?

My Utmost For His Highest

“Sell all that you have . . .” (Luke 18:22). In other words, rid yourself before God of everything that might be considered a possession until you are a mere conscious human being standing before Him, and then give God that. That is where the battle is truly fought— in the realm of your will before God. Are you more devoted to your idea of what Jesus wants than to Jesus Himself? If so, you are likely to hear one of His harsh and unyielding statements that will produce sorrow in you. What Jesus says is difficult— it is only easy when it is heard by those who have His nature in them. Beware of allowing anything to soften the hard words of Jesus Christ.” CHAMBERS

I have often used the exchange between Jesus and the ‘rich young ruler’ when talking to people about not holding back in their service to Him.  This new life we have been called to is  .. well it’s a new life … new priorities … new culture … new affections … it’s ‘NEW’.  (2 Corinthians 5:17) What happened with that young man?  He was attracted to the benefit of a relationship with God, but was not willing to forsake what he found pleasure, comfort and security in .. his possessions .. to achieve it.  When you boil it down … the problem is faith and trust.    Psalms 20:7  Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

What have you placed your trust in?  We all know what the ‘right’ answer is.  But when you are standing before Jesus.  When He tells you to let it all go.  Will you?  Have you?  This is a heart issue.  You can tell others about your ‘sacrifice’ or even receive praise for it (be careful about receiving praise for what God has done in you .. all praise goes to God). Only you and the Lord know if you have really let it go.  Lot’s wife left the town, physically, but her heart was still there .. she had left family there. (Genesis 19)  Jesus said Remember Lot's wife.  Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.” (Luke 17:32-33 )

The nation of Israel left Egypt, but when things got tough, they yearned to return.  (Numbers 14)  What is it that is holding you back?  Give it up!  Lay it down!  Give yourself fully to God … you’ll be glad you did!

Proverbs 3:5-11  "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.  Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;  So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.  My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction;"
