Walking Your Talk

My Utmost For His Highest
If we do not apply our beliefs about God to the issues of everyday life, the vision God has given us will never be fulfilled. CHAMBERS

When someone hears or reads the word – ‘Vision’ in the context of our Christian faith, they think Moses … Abraham … Big stuff … bigger than they will ever have to worry about.  But I want you to think back to the day you placed your trust in Jesus.  That day when you discovered a bigger reality … the day you were given spiritual vision and understanding.

But as it is written: "EYE HAS NOT SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD, NOR HAVE ENTERED INTO THE HEART OF MAN THE THINGS WHICH GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM." But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For "WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD THAT HE MAY INSTRUCT HIM?" But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:9-16)

You knew at that point the way that God wanted you to walk … and you wanted to walk in it.  But so often, Christians fail to apply what they know to the way they live.  It is as if they live two lives … one at church and the other in the world.  But that is not the vision we received on that day … It was a vision where we were salt and light in our world … that what we knew to be truth and the way we lived our lives were one in the same … what people saw in us was consistency in our lives … what we said we believed and what we actually do were the same.  Christians are often referred to as Believers … maybe we should change that to Doers …

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:22-25)

In what way are we deceiving ourselves?  We think we are living in obedience to God … but only in our mind … not in the issues of everyday life … Let your light shine today
